BSL Awareness Week in Elm Class
Tue 14 Mar 2023What a fantastic time we had in school when Leanne and Scott came to talk to us about BSL (BSL stands for British Sign Language). This week is BSL awareness week so it was a great time to learn something new !
We had fun learning some simple signs like good morning, and we are going to sign the class register from now on! We had a great time learning to fingerspell our names, and learned about Leanne’s job as an interpreter. Scott explained to us about how things are different when you are deaf, and he said that with his desk friends, they use the lights and flash them to get attention !

Investigating materials in Reception
Tue 07 Mar 2023After reading the story 'The Three Little Pigs', we discussed the materials the pigs had used to build their homes. We knew the bricks were the strongest material but thought of other materials they could have used.
We decided to go and investigate the different materials our school was made from. We talked about why these types of materials were used for particular structures. The children noticed that some things had to be waterproof and windproof. We are going to continue our investigation next week and test what materials are waterproof and windproof in class!
