  • PSHE - Celebrating Remembrance Day in Elm Class

Wed 11 Nov 2020 Miss Pearson

Today in Elm Class we remembered those people who fought for peace in many different wars.  We discussed lots of great grandads and great grandmas and what role they played in the Second World War , whilst also remembering parents and relatives who serve in the military.

The children observed the two minutes silence brilliantly, and were able to talk about their own thoughts and feelings. Miss Pearson was really proud of them all.

We enjoyed making our own poppies to wear today in school, and we made a plaque to hang up at home.

    We will remember them.

  • Fairy house hunting and 3D maps

Mon 09 Nov 2020 Miss Blackwell
Oak class received a letter from the fearless but forgetful fairies. They told us how they kept forgetting where they lived in the woods next to school. We went to find their fairy house in the woods then made / drew a map of the the main features we passed to get there. Some children wrote letters back to the fairy and made a wish.
    What a magical day!

  • Using modern technology to find out about Saxon place names.

Thu 15 Oct 2020 Mrs Bullock

What an interesting afternoon in Snowdon class! We have been finding out more about life in Saxon times, the children researched place names and found that villages and towns were often named after the village chieftain or physical features of the land they were built on.

    Saxon words
    ton=settlement      ing =meeting place    den=woodland clearing    ford= river crossing
We used Digimaps to search for place names, we found lots of Saxon place names close toys in Euxton!

  • Marshmallow Toasting for Rivington

Wed 14 Oct 2020 Miss Fowler
After a torrential Stone Age Day, we finally managed a dry enough day to get the fire pit alight to toast our marshmallows! We had a lot of fun, although some of our marshmallows were a little more “well done” than others, and even recycled our skewers to collect some leaves and acorns! A real autumnal treat! 🍡🔥
  • Toasting marshmallows in Pendle Class

Wed 14 Oct 2020 Miss Dobbs
Today we made the most of the dry weather and went out to toast marshmallows on the fire. We were supposed to do this during our Stone Age Day as part of the fire making activity last week but unfortunately it was too wet. It was definitely worth the wait!
