Jessie the school dog visits Elm Class !
Fri 07 May 2021We love Jessie, our new School Dog! This afternoon Jessie came to see our class for the second time and we all felt that her quiet and calm manner helped us to feel calm too. She worked outside on the field with a group of children, others were able to take her for a walk, and we loved her joining in with us at assembly time.
We can’t wait for her to come back to see us again.

Introducing the Next Generation of Engineers
Wed 05 May 2021The children have absolutely blown me away with their collaborative working, problem solving and making skills during the final phase of our DT project on bridges. The teams worked together and came up with designs which met a very specific brief, they used tools including pull saws and glue guns. Finally, their projects were rigorously tested and awarded scores for different elements. They were all very pleased with the final outcomes.

Outdoor Maths - Everest
Sat 17 Apr 2021This week in Maths lessons, Year 6 have been studying Properties of Shape, with a particular focus on angles. On Thursday, we decided to make the most of the sunshine and took our session outside. We revisited the different compass points before using our bodies to act as the needle. In groups, we had to problem solve different turns and incorporated some fractions work on addition of different denominators to calculate our final points. We had lots of fun and it definitely helped to consolidate our understanding.

Science experiments and exploding books in Everest.
Sat 27 Mar 2021Since returning to school on the 8th March, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on their Science topic understanding the Circulatory System. We’ve completed some pulse experiments to understand why our heart works faster when we exercise, and have learnt about how to keep our body healthy. This week the children were tasked with making representations of blood; they had to justify and reason what was needed and explain the functions of each component. In addition, they wrote a fantastic narrative in role as a red blood cell, on their journey through the body. Finally, they finished their exploding books combining their art skills with research to inform how to stay healthy. I have been so impressed with their creativity and hard work. Well done Everest! -
