  • Lowry Artist in Ash Class

    Tue 21 Mar 2023

This morning Ash class had a visit from Danny who is an Artist from the Lowry in Manchester. He taught us how to blend and shade using oil pastels in the traditional colours that L.S. Lowry used in his paintings. We created industrial landscape pictures including the matchstick figures that Lowry was so famous for. We are very proud of our creations and really enjoyed the morning.

Olympus have really impressed during our dance unit ‘Earthlings’. They have created a dance with individual movements (comets), paired (2 different planets), groups (rocket to UFO) and whole class (sun that then explodes). The creativity and teamwork really impressed - we even impressed Mr Halsall!

  • Testing materials

Thu 16 Mar 2023 Miss Blackwell

We had lots of fun testing materials. We looked at which materials were waterproof and windproof using a fan and a watering can. The children noticed that some materials were strong, bendy, light, heavy and shiny. We had a great discussion about the properties of each material and why we need them for different things. The children enjoyed exploring different materials in continuous provision.

  • BSL Awareness Week in Elm Class

Tue 14 Mar 2023 Miss Pearson

What a fantastic time we had in school when Leanne and Scott came to talk to us about BSL (BSL stands for British Sign Language).  This week is BSL awareness week so it was a great time to learn something new !

We had fun learning some simple signs like good morning, and we are going to sign the class register from now on! We had a great time learning to fingerspell our names, and learned about Leanne’s job as an interpreter. Scott explained to us about how things are different when you are deaf, and he said that with his desk friends, they use the lights and flash them to get attention !
